Fertility Preservation

Fertility preservation refers to a range of options designed to help protect your ability to have a baby in the future. It’s a proactive step for people who may want to delay starting a family or who are facing medical treatments or life circumstances that could affect their fertility.

Fertility preservation can include freezing eggs, sperm, or embryos for future use. For women, this often means undergoing a short IVF-style process to collect and freeze eggs before fertility naturally declines with age or before starting treatments such as chemotherapy or surgery. For men, it usually involves collecting and freezing sperm.

This process can also support individuals who are transitioning genders, those with endometriosis, or anyone wanting the reassurance of keeping their fertility options open for the future.

What is Elective Egg Freezing?

Egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, is a fertility preservation option that allows women to store their eggs for future use. It enables you to plan for pregnancy later in life while keeping younger, healthier eggs available.

Why Consider It?

  • To delay pregnancy for personal, career, or relationship reasons.
  • To protect fertility before medical treatments, such as chemotherapy or surgery.
  • If there’s a family history of early menopause or concerns about egg quality.
  • To keep options open for the future.

The Process

  1. Stimulating the ovaries – Fertility medications encourage the ovaries to produce several eggs simultaneously.
  2. Collecting the eggs – The eggs are gently retrieved during a short procedure.
  3. Freezing and storage – Using a rapid-freezing method called vitrification, the eggs are frozen and safely stored in liquid nitrogen.

Donor & Surrogacy

Dr Kaushi believes there are many beautiful ways to build a family. For some, this may include using donor eggs, sperm, embryos, or surrogacy as part of their fertility journey. These pathways can offer new hope when traditional conception isn’t possible, and Dr Kaushi and her team are here to guide you with kindness, honesty, and expert care every step of the way.

Egg Donation

Egg donation may be recommended if a woman’s own eggs are unlikely to result in pregnancy, often due to age, premature menopause, or certain medical conditions. The eggs are provided by a donor, fertilised with sperm in the laboratory, and the resulting embryo is transferred to the recipient’s uterus. Dr Kaushi works closely with patients and donor programs to ensure the process is handled with sensitivity, transparency, and within the legal framework associated with donors in NSW.

Sperm Donation

Sperm donation can help individuals and couples who are unable to use their own sperm to conceive. This option is also commonly used by single women and same-sex female couples. Donor sperm is carefully screened and selected, and Dr Kaushi will help guide you through the process, so you feel supported, informed, and confident in your choices.

Surrogacy

Surrogacy involves another person (the surrogate) carrying a pregnancy on behalf of the intended parent or parents. It can be a wonderful option for those who are unable to carry a pregnancy themselves, including single men, same-sex male couples, or women with certain medical conditions. Dr Kaushi and her team provide compassionate guidance, from medical coordination to legal governance and emotional support.

Recurrent Pregnancy Loss

Experiencing a miscarriage is deeply emotional and going through it more than once can feel overwhelming and heartbreaking.

Recurrent pregnancy loss is defined as the loss of two or more consecutive pregnancies. It can have many possible causes, including hormonal imbalances, genetic factors, structural issues in the uterus, autoimmune conditions, or sometimes reasons that remain unexplained.

Dr Kaushi takes a thorough, thoughtful approach to investigation, looking closely at your medical history, running targeted tests, and listening carefully to your experience and concerns.

Once the underlying factors are understood, Dr Kaushi will work with you to create a personalised care plan that gives you the best chance of a healthy pregnancy in the future. This may include medical treatment, supportive therapies, and close monitoring during early pregnancy to help you feel reassured and cared for.
