How a Fertility Assessment can help you
A fertility assessment helps you understand what might affect your ability to conceive and guides you toward the best treatment options. It can give you a clearer picture of your chances of becoming pregnant naturally or with a bit of medical help, and it also provides valuable insight into your overall reproductive health. Sometimes, these assessments can even highlight other health issues needing attention.
Most importantly, a fertility assessment empowers you to make informed, confident decisions about your reproductive health and your plans for the future.
When to start looking for answers
Research shows that most couples conceive within the first year of trying, with the highest chances occurring during the first three months. The probability of conception naturally decreases over time and with age. In women under 35, about four out of five couples conceive within six months of trying.
It’s advisable to seek fertility advice or begin investigations if conception has not occurred after six months of trying.
Studies also suggest that after six months of attempting conception, about half of the couples who have not yet conceived may require fertility support. As a general recommendation, discussing your situation with a General Practitioner (GP) or fertility specialist after four to six months of unsuccessful attempts is a sensible step toward identifying possible issues and starting appropriate investigations.
Understanding what might be affecting your fertility.
Infertility, sometimes called subfertility, refers to difficulty conceiving after a period of regular, unprotected sex — usually 12 months if the woman is under 35, or six months if she is over 35.
An infertility evaluation helps uncover and address any underlying factors that may be making it harder to fall pregnant. These can include hormonal imbalances, structural issues within the reproductive system, or other medical conditions that affect fertility. The goal is to identify what’s happening and find the most effective path forward to support conception.
What happens at your Fertility Assessment?
A fertility assessment is a series of medical tests and evaluations designed to determine a person’s capacity to conceive and carry a pregnancy successfully. This process may include physical examinations, blood tests, and imaging scans to evaluate the condition of the reproductive organs and identify any issues that could impact fertility. It can also involve reviewing general health and lifestyle factors that might influence reproductive potential. The findings from these assessments help guide the development of a personalised fertility treatment.
How does a fertility assessment work?
A fertility assessment is designed to give you a complete picture of your reproductive health. It usually includes simple steps that help your specialist understand what’s happening and how best to support your fertility journey. A General Practitioner (GP) referral is needed for both you and your partner.
