Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART)
Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) refers to various advanced medical treatments that can help individuals and couples experiencing difficulties conceiving. ART involves working directly with eggs and sperm to improve the chances of pregnancy.
While success rates can vary based on individual circumstances, these treatments have helped many people achieve their dream of becoming parents.
In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)
In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) is a type of assisted reproductive treatment that helps people conceive when natural conception is complex. The process involves stimulating the ovaries to produce eggs, fertilising them with sperm in a specialised laboratory, and transferring the resulting embryo into the uterus.
IVF may be recommended for individuals or couples experiencing blocked fallopian tubes, male factor infertility, endometriosis, ovulation disorders, or when fertility preservation is needed. It can also be an option in cases of unexplained infertility.
While success rates vary, particularly with age and egg quality, IVF remains one of the most effective fertility treatments available, offering many individuals and couples the chance to achieve pregnancy.
Through her collaboration with City Fertility, Dr Kaushi works closely with dedicated nurses and leading embryologists to provide excellence in fertility care and proven success.
The IVF Process
- Ovarian stimulation – Hormonal medications stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple mature eggs.
- Egg retrieval – The eggs are collected as a simple day procedure. Laboratory fertilisation
- Eggs are combined with sperm, either naturally or using ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection).
- Embryo development – Fertilised eggs are monitored in the lab as they grow into embryos.
- Embryo transfer – A carefully selected embryo is transferred into the uterus; additional embryos may be frozen for later use.
- Pregnancy Test – A blood test is performed around two weeks after transfer to confirm pregnancy.
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a straightforward, non-invasive procedure that can increase the chances of pregnancy. During ovulation, sperm are placed directly into the uterus using a soft, flexible tube. This helps the sperm get closer to the egg, making fertilisation more likely.
IUI is often recommended for couples with mild fertility concerns—such as low sperm count or motility, issues with cervical mucus, sexual function difficulties, or when donor sperm is being used. The procedure is quick, painless, and performed in the clinic without anesthesia.
Ovulation Induction (OI)
Ovulation Induction (OI) is often the first step in fertility treatment. It involves taking medication, either in tablet or injection form, to encourage the ovaries to release an egg. Your doctor will then advise you on the best time to have intercourse for conception.
OI can be an effective option for women who don’t ovulate regularly. However, it’s less beneficial for women who already ovulate naturally each month. It’s a simple, low-intervention approach that can help improve your chances of conceiving.
