Guiding Women to Thrive Through Menopause
Menopause is a natural stage of life that marks the end of menstrual cycles and fertility. It is confirmed once a woman has gone 12 months without a period, most often between the ages of 45 and 55. This transition occurs as the ovaries gradually produce less oestrogen and progesterone, leading to the end of periods and a range of physical and emotional changes.
Stages of Menopause
- Perimenopause – The transition stage, often beginning in the 40s, when periods become irregular and symptoms start due to fluctuating hormones.
- Menopause – Defined as 12 months without a period.
- Postmenopause – The years after menopause, when symptoms may continue but often ease over time.
Common Symptoms
- Irregular periods before they stop completely (perimenopause)
- Hot flushes and night sweats
- Mood changes, anxiety, or irritability
- Sleep difficulties
- Vaginal dryness or discomfort
- Lower libido
- Difficulty with memory or concentration
- Increased risk of osteoporosis
